  • Opening Date: Scotia Place is scheduled to open in fall 2027.

  • Location: Situated in Calgary’s emerging Culture + Entertainment District, this 10-acre site will feature various amenities aimed at enhancing the community experience.

  • Design: The building’s design integrates Indigenous cultural perspectives and Calgary’s natural beauty, featuring a central structure with a flame motif that symbolizes warmth and community.

  • Features:

    • Community Rink: An ice rink available for public use.

    • Public Plazas: Both outdoor and indoor spaces designed for community gatherings.

    • Restaurants: Four new dining options.

    • Calgary Flames Team Store: A dedicated store for Flames merchandise.

    • Future Development: Additional space reserved for future development in the northeast corner of the site.

  • Economic Impact: Expected to attract millions of visitors annually, generating significant revenue for local businesses and boosting the economy. It is also projected to provide homes for approximately 8,000 residents in the new downtown neighborhood.

  • Community Engagement: The design and development of Scotia Place have involved extensive consultation with Indigenous communities, ensuring the space honors and reflects their cultural heritage.

Canada facing tough decisions for 2025 4 nations face-off

As the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off approaches, Canada is grappling with some tough choices regarding their roster selections. This international tournament will feature the best players from Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States, competing in a round-robin format from February 12-20 in Montreal and Boston. This will be the first best-on-best tournament since the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Key Highlights:

  • Roster Announcements: Each team has already announced six players who have either won an international gold medal, the Stanley Cup, or an individual NHL award.

    • Canada's Roster: Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Brad Marchand, Cale Makar, and Brayden Point.

    • Finland's Roster: Juuse Saros, Miro Heiskanen, Esa Lindell, Sebastian Aho, Aleksander Barkov, and Mikko Rantanen.

    • Sweden's Roster: Gustav Forsling, Victor Hedman, Erik Karlsson, Filip Forsberg, William Nylander, and Mika Zibanejad.

    • United States' Roster: Adam Fox, Quinn Hughes, Charlie McAvoy, Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, and Matthew Tkachuk.

  • Tournament Format: Each team will play three round-robin games, with points awarded for wins in regulation, overtime/shootouts, and losses in overtime/shootouts. The two teams with the best records will advance to the championship game on February 20.

Exciting matchups:

  • Opening Games: Canada vs. Sweden on February 12, and USA vs. Finland on February 13.

  • Rivalry Doubleheaders: Finland vs. Sweden and USA vs. Canada on February 15.

  • Final Games in Boston: Canada vs. Finland and Sweden vs. USA on February 17.
